Started in 2013 by Evan Mitchell (Singer, Song Writer, Programmer) Machines on Blast's growth began shortly with the additions of recording/live guitarist Warren Adams in 2014 and live drummer Chris Marshall. This line-up released their well received self-titled debut EP “Machines On Blast”. Alongside the EP, Machines on Blast went on to appear in the compilations “Digital Recovery 10.4” and “Elektro Villain: Volume 002”.
Machines on Blast supported their self-titled EP with a brand new remix album featuring independent artists including Chrome Corpse, Particle Son, Man Woman Machine, and FlammPunkt. Machines on Blast then recruited bass player Scott Vanhorn for the live line-up, and went on to perform alongside The Dreaming (Former Stabbing Westward), My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Genitorturers, Death Valley High, and Fractured Fairytales.
In 2015 that Machines on Blast began writing for their next full length production, Tin Man Empire, which released in 2016. The album was well received with Hooded Stranger (www.hoodedstranger.com) stating Machines on Blast is, “...explosive and detonate their sound,” and Brutal Resonance (www.brutalresonance.com) praising the album as, “angry, loud, and brings back a 90s industrial sound.”
In late 2017, Machines on Blast welcomed guitarist Andrew Howington to the line up for both live and studio duties and announced their music is to be featured in Australian horror film 'Bite Club' which was released in 2018.
Amidst the global shutdown due to COVID-19, Machines on Blast completed writing and producing their album Black Market Happiness which was released in October of 2020. This album was very well received and was noted to have added more depth and stylistic offerings to their songwriting while still solidifying their Industrial Metal sound.

Machines on Blast
Album Review: Black Market Happiness
Machines on Blast, has released their latest album “Black Market Happiness.” This is an industrial metal wet dream! With influences of: Ministry, Type O Negative, Ghost, Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, Mushroomhead, Lamb of God, and Nine Inch Nails, they pack a powerful punch! With hell fire driven vocals, punchy guitar riffs, and seriously aggressive drum work. The key arrangements are an awesome touch and give the music a spooky ambience.
“This Warm Embrace” is the first track off the album and lyrically it is deep and bitter. The singer cries out, “take me down and take it all from me, you are as random as fate!” This is something I think we can all relate to. That powerfully gripping bite of the things we do to cope with our mortality. This song hits the nail on the head and the music backs up these mighty lyrics with an arrangement that is both unique and driving.
One of the highlight tracks for me that shows off the identity of the band is the song “Fake the Cure.” This song has a driving beat, with each musician holding their identity. The song builds nicely into a dirty riff with a lead accompaniment that acts as a counter melody to the insanely catchy chorus. This is a song where they use their influences nicely, weaving key/synth arrangements in singing and screaming. The drummer’s hi-hat driven, disco esq beat acts as the perfect juxtaposition throughout the selection. It’s pleasing to the earholes is anything but guilty.
These guys have put together a nicely aggressive album. They definitely know what they are doing in the studio and their drum tone is incredible. The songs are hooky yet aggressive as fuck. The instrumentation is amazing and their expertise in their ability to compose shines bright.

Being a musician of the synth programmer persuasion in the early 2000s, I often found myself repeating the same conversations with would be industrial metal bands that were just missing that one.. industrial element. Clueless to the nuances of the genre, an intro sample from any given Kubrick film prefacing the riff salad to follow would be the bridge to industrial legitimacy. Like the much sought-after goth girlfriend longed for by those lacking in their Gomez game, it was a pairing that was never meant to be.
Enter Melbourne FL's own Machines on Blast, who's Gomez game is as on point as the confines of an iron maiden. Their latest offering, Black Market Happiness, is as solid a metal album as it is dark alternative. Entering with This Warm Embrace, we're presented with the band's vision on full display. With menacing, synthesized overtones, drums that bounce from solid grooves to machine gun blasts typically reserved for extreme metal. The vocals rise and fall from aggressive clean tones to borderline death screams. All of these elements are tied together with pristine sound production.
The initial impression and operative word that defines this release is effort.
There's effort in the vocal delivery.
There's effort in the songwriting.
There's effort in ensuring a quality of work.
We don't hear riffs that are phoned in. There are clever bits of odd time signatures and start/stop dynamics. Elements that take thought.. And that magical word, effort.
We don't hear vocals that haven't had thought put into both lyrical content and delivery. Each line is delivered in a means to drive the song dynamics in a way that's interesting and precise.
Finally, the elements that are beyond the typical metal spectrum do not feel like they've been tacked on, but are instead utilized with the same level of importance as the instrumentation they've been paired with.
My early 2000s Craigslist Musician's Wanted browsing self would be mildly jealous.
As solid a delivery Black Market Happiness is, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a groundbreaking release. There are elements of 90s and early 2000s alternative metal that remain steadily unchanged. For some, myself included, that would be a strong selling point as many of the bands of that era never quite broke into perfecting the craft as Machines on Blast have displayed here.
Black Market Happiness is truly a highlight of 2020 and is highly recommended for anyone that longs for the industrial metal of yore.

It is astonishing to see how far Machines on Blast has come in the four years since their previous album "Tin Man Empire". Attempting to compare their current album "Black Market Happiness" to their prior effort is useless; "Tin Man Empire" sounds off as a demo of a band trying to find their niche in the metal scene. Whatever process Machines on Blast modified to create this new powerhouse of an album has paid off as the electronic, metal, and industrial elements found within are crisp, clean, and filled with rage.
The review for the album can start with the cover art of the album. It shows a hellish mist of fire-fueled smoke masking a Jesus-posed figure with fanatics surrounding them. You can almost assume the jam session's sound before even streaming or injecting that CD into your long-forgotten CD player. It also lays in contrast to Machines on Blast's previous album covers whose simpler, logo-based designs did the job well enough but never appealed entirely to the scrutinous eye. To both Bahrull Marta and Machines on Blast, I salute you.
Pressing the play button for "Black Market Happiness" will grant you access into a smashing album of industrial metal, nu metal, and general electronic fuckery. Like icons of the scene such as Rob Zombie, Static X, and others, Machines on Blast is homing in on a cross between music that you can either dance to in a club or nastily headbang to in a furious, unconscious rage. Songs such as 'Like Facts to the Slaughter', 'Face the Fire', and 'The Motives of Tied Hands' are perfect examples of the fun-but-frenzied electrometal anthems on "Black Market Happiness".
Two of my favorite songs on "Black Market Happiness" stab the previous compliments I have given the album in the back. 'This Warm Embrace', which serves as the first song on the album, maintains itself as my current favorite. Thrash metal percussion and blast beats introduced me to the album then abruptly switched into an unholy, melody driven chorus. The song continues in that pattern for its duration and the on-off nature of the song kept me on my toes; it's a brutal introduction to the album. On the other hand, 'Living the Lie' seems to bring out Machines on Blast's love for gothrock and darkwave artists. It start with standard industrial rock machinations, but swiftly turns into a more emotional verse lacking frenetic guitars. Deeper pitched and handsome vocals takeover before hitting us back into the aforementioned industrial rock beats. Just like with 'This Warm Embrace', the constant switching maintained my fascination.
I would not be able to say this is a complete review without mentioning the collaborations held on the album. Chris "Lutachrist" Dupre (Fractured Fairytales, Narcotic Wasteland) lends his aggressive chords to the song 'The Proclamation'. And, I don't know about you, but if Evan Mitchell and this guy were standing at a podium screaming to a chamber of audience members about an issue, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to start a riot. The dual vocals on the song during the chorus works wonders; there's more testosterone in this one song than at a Planet Fitness during peak workout periods. Machines on Blast also recruited Henrik Udd (engineer, producer) for mixing and mastering; his credentials are phenomenal as he's worked with the likes of Bring Me the Horizon, Architects, Powerwolf, and many others. This is one of the many reasons as to why "Black Market Happiness" comes off as sounding so crisp.
As far as criticisms go, I have almost none. I suppose it comes down to personal taste in this regard; there's not a song on the album that I think is bad. But there are songs that I think are better than others. For example, when I get to 'The Chosen Failure' on a straight playthrough of the album, I could listen to it or I could skip it and hit 'Blur the Lines' which is a song I appreciate much, much more. "Black Market Happiness" is one of those albums where I'll pick and choose certain songs to be in rotation on my personal playlist, but the rest will be entertaining digests whenever I decide to go back through the band's discography.
Whatever I said above can be applied to a conclusion whereupon I repeat myself over and over again. So, instead of doing that, I'll leave you with the reminder that "Black Market Happiness" is available on Bandcamp in both digital and CD formats. With a big ol'eight-out-of-ten, I'd say this album is more than worthy of being added to your collection.

Machines On Blast - Black Market Happiness
Self Release
Review by Steve Thomas-Green
Machines On Blast’s 2016 album, Tin Man Empire was a perfectly formed amalgamation of Indu5trial Metal meet5, Neue Deut5che Härte. So when I hit play for the first time on their new album, Black Market Happiness, I thought there’d been a mistake or and it was a different band with the same name.
Opener, This Warm Embrace is a full on assault of Modern Metal, with a huge Symphonic meets Hardcore flavor... the sound is just immense....
But no, it’s the same band, but it seems they’ve expanded their sound, in the 4 years since their last album. And I guess getting in a new guitarist who may have difference influences and using a producer who has worked with the modern side of Metal makes a massive difference.
So after my initial shock, things settle down with track 2, Like Facts to the Slaughter, which is more in keeping with their older material. although everything on this album is bigger and most definitely better.
For the want of a simple pigeonhole, the goalposts have shifted to incorporate an Alternative Metal edge, which sits very comfortably alongside the metronomic Industrial riffing. and you can’t beat a good, sing-a-long, or
shout-a-long chorus. and there’s plenty of that on offer here.
I cannot keep shh whilst playing this, the incessant beats and riffing just force my head into a constant state of nodding along and it’s a fucker trying to type when your feet are tapping away like crazy and your hands want to join in too.
In old school terms, I’d put this somewhere between Rammstein and Clawfinger. the modern side of Metal isn’t
something I have a clue about, but if gigs and festivals ever start up again, I won’t be surprised to see Machines On Blast on the mainstage at somewhere like Download
Despite the fact that this is a self-release, which I have to say does surprise me, (what the fuck is up with the bigger labels these days?) this does feel like Machines on Blast are making a play for the big time. and I think there’s a really good chance of
that happening with this album. Especially if one of the bigger Metal labels, like Nuclear Blast, picks this up and brings it to a bigger audience.
Well, kids, Evan Mitchell and Machines on Blast have gone and done it again. This new album dropped earlier this month and it's got everything: Hard heavy metal/industrial metal speed riffs, dark lyrics, Evan's broody screams (and the occasional clear singing voice - I've always thought he was a crooner at heart!), and those light but present synth accents that are interlaced throughout all of which combine to paint these dark, almost revolutionary landscapes. Well worth the wait!!! Check it out!
After taking a bit of extended break to rest, recharge, and create, Machines On Blast are back in full form delivering a jam-packed release of devilishly intense Industrial Metal album. Giving you 13 tracks, with only 2 of them clocking under 4 minutes in length, this album certainly makes up for some lost time. Fronted by the insanely charismatic and dominating personality that is Evan Mitchell, who makes his talented powerful presence well known throughout the release with his diverse and engaging array of vocal styles, and backed by an equally impressive slew of musicians who manage to match his performance variety and enthusiasm with their own vigor, this is not an album you want to miss if you like your heavier guitar music with some synths.
This release refuses to fail to deliver all the way through, giving you (almost) nothing but balls-to-the-walls entirely exhilarating guitar driven electro metal stompers. A good chunk of the music could easily fit on a Fear Factory or Deathstars album, with heavy but groovy guitars, pointedly delivered aggressive vocals, backed by 2000s dancefloor inspired synths, and penetrating but hypnotic drums that balance their duty to the heavier and groovier elements more then adequately. However, this album isn't one trick pony, dabbling in some more progressive elements, such as the gothic rock inspired song Living The Lie, as well as the Alternative Metal inspired "Slaves To Our Own Past" and "Untruths And Imperfections". A potent collection of tracks, which can be found available on all major streaming services. 1.Introduce yourself and your band and tell us why we should listen to you.
My name is Evan Mitchell and my band is called Machines on Blast. Our latest album, Black Market Happiness, is a diverse blend of metal stylings all wrapped within an industrial metal package that remains completely authentic from concept to delivery. This is album is aggressive. this album is emotional. This album is loud. Check it out.”
2.What do you classify your sound as, Who do you tell people you sound like?
We fall into the Industrial Metal & Alternative Metal category, but we also have songs that stray from that and live in the Rock world. I don't like to use other bands to describe our sound, but I have been told that we have a Fear Factory, Static X, DevilDriver vibe.
3.With digital music in today's world would you vote to keep or eliminate physical media?
100% keep. It may be on a smaller scale now, but plenty of people still buy physical media.
4.What is the reason you decided to be a musician and has that reason paid off?
It's just something that is in my blood. If I'm not working on music or art I feel completely lost. Has it paid off? Sure, keeping my sanity is super important.
5.How do you feel about females in metal getting special attention? Do you feel it is fair?
I have no issues with it, we are all just trying to get to ahead and some people will have an easier path than others, that's life!
6.In the world climate with hatred being at an all-time high and metal being “ angry” music, Do you think your music contributes to anger and hatred?
Not at all, if anything "angry" music provides an outlet of relief for its listeners.
7.Are you opposed to religious beliefs or politics being used in music?
Write and speak your mind, I'm in no position to judge.
8.We have dived into some pretty deep issues here do you think your music sends a message and if so what is it?
Every release will have its own message. Our current release, Black Market Happiness, deals with the complex world of mental health as a whole. Touching on the causes and effects that seem to surround so many, though so few are comfortable enough to talk about it themselves.
9.The market has changed and many bands believe that record labels are a thing of the past, with many labels now charging bands to “sign” how do you think a band can make it in today's scene?
It's hit or miss and it all depends on how good your negotiation skills are. If said label has the money and is willing to sink it into the development and promotion of your band that is above and beyond what you can do as an independent artist, then you might want to put some serious thought into what they are offering. Just be careful because I see countless bands signing to smaller labels (because it's exciting to say you got signed) then a few weeks or months later you never see any push from these labels. So what was gained?
10.Why with the thousands of options including Netflix , sporting events everything on-demand, Why do you think people should take the time to listen to what you have to say in your music?
I'm no one special, just an artist who sings about my life's thoughts and adventures in a realistic form. So if that interests you, I would love to have you come along for the ride!
11.How do you feel about pay to play? Do you think it is fair for a band to have to pay money to play?
It has been and will always be a garbage practice, I watched it
first hand destroy the Los Angeles music scene. All you end up getting is a bunch of opening acts that don't fit the theme of the night and got booked because they were willing to pay the cost. The community notices this trend and that is why few people take the time to come and see the opening local acts. Passing the cost on to the local bands because the promoter can't afford the cost of the headliner. That is all it is, minus a few exceptions to the rule. With what some of these people are trying to charge local bands to play one show, with just a few hundred dollars more, you could just buy on to 5 or 6 dates of the tour directly.
12.It is fact that you are the talent and the entertainment explain what you think is the most important key to success?
Persistence and knowing if what you are writing is great or it's shit. Always be totally honest with yourself and what you create, then you got a solid foundation to move up.
13.In country music and even in some cases rock music is written and performed by different people would your band perform a song written by someone else?
Sure, if it fits the vibe of what we do.
14.If you are pro-female in music are you pro using sex to sell your music?
Do whatever gimmick you think is going to work for you.
15.What is your view on the lawsuits against people saying lewd or unprofessional things to women or men and how does that affect an art described as sex drugs and rock n roll?
My answers would have to be on a case by case basis, I'm not going to give a broad answer for situations I know little about, but with that being said, Treat people with respect and kindness and don't be a douche.
16. Ok let's lighten up a bit. What is your favorite band of all time and why?
I don't have a favorite band, I dig all music for all different reasons, just depends on the mood I'm in at the time. Type O Negative's October Rust is currently playing.
17.What would you be doing if you were not in a band?
If I was not in a band, I would just be writing solo, the creativity will never end!
18. Do you have a favorite sports team? Negative
19.If you could get on stage with anyone dead or alive who would it be?
I would love to be on stage with The Marshall Tucker Band and sing "Can't you see."
20.This is your shot to let loose, Throw down your biggest complaint about the music biz.
It is what it is. It has never been a welcoming or easy business to navigate through, and never will be.

Machines on Blast – Black Market Happiness
Taking the groove metal aspects of Devildriver and merging them with some ’90s industrial influences (a la Stabbing Westward or even Fear Factory), Machines on Blast have a interesting vibe going. It’s immediately catchy on both the riff and electronic ends, and it prompts feelings of both headbanging and shaking a leg at the same time. Toss in some occasional gothic sounds too (see “Living the Lie”) and it becomes insidiously infectious. It captures some dark industrial sounds of the past and successfully brings them up to modern metal standards. A total win for those seeking groovy melodies.

Super happy to announce that Machines on Blast are now endorsed by Tsunami Cables !!!!!
Tsunami Cables are the quintessential choice for the most discriminating audio professional.
Tsunami Cables are designed to eliminate the need for having, what is an industry standard... two sets of audio cables. One, for Studio recording and one for the road. Most cables are either high sound quality designed for use in recording OR made to withstand the rigors of the road. Our cables are designed to handle both conditions.
Thank you for welcoming us to the Tsunami family!
We are very proud of our drummer Alejandro Acuna for securing an endorsement deal with Soultone cymbals!!!
Here is is artist page

As many of you know, The Oontzcast is one of the oldest podcasts to still exist in the Industrial music community and just turned four years old this past January. In celebration to all of the great times, wonderful music, and gorgeous people that we have met over the years we wanted to give back to the community. With that in mind, we bring you the first in a series we intend to release twice annually (about every six months) to introduce new artists to Industrial fans. The Oontzcast Files, a community compilation of 83 tracks submitted by some of the best artists in the Industrial community today. It covers many genres and is available to you for FREE! There is a limit to 200 downloads per month, so grab yours while you can or you might just have to wait for the downloads to refresh for the following month!A special thank you goes out to DJ Shibari for collecting all of the submissions and putting this together and to Frank Sparti from Flammpunkt for mastering and his invaluable help! Please be sure to see the track listing below the player and click on the band names to check out other materials they have available!
