Seattle-guitarist and frontman Mason Turner has characterized his own signature style of Seattle Music. His sound is rooted in the Blues and infused with influences from Jazz, Funk, Soul, Pop and Rock. With the combination of these elements, the band packs a raw and soulful punch. Turner's soul-soaked lyrics create the perfect atmosphere for this band to thrive, the result being, music that can move you to smiles and tears at the same time. Mason Turner and his band the Reign just released their debut album, "Summer Man" and have plans to head back into the studio to record their next project in March of 2017.
In 2013 the Passing The Torch and Centrum scholarships were given to Mason from the Washington Blues Society in recognition of his raw talent and potential as a blues artist. In 2014 Mason met bassist, August Davis, and drummer, Luca Cartner. Together the three started the power trio Mason Turner and the Reign.
In January of 2014, Mason began a mentorship with Seattle artist Ayron Jones of Ayron Jones and the Way. This was a super powerful tool and resource for Mason because it gave him a platform and a valuable contact in the music industry to start building his career. Ayron and Mason would continue to be friends and would go on to help him release his debut album, "Summer Man". In about a years time, February of 2015 Mason Turner also brought Seattle drummer Gunnar Streuli and guitar player Isaac Hollandsworth into the mix. Streuli brought experience in everything from Metal to Jazz. Hollandsworth put the icing on top of the cake with his ambient guitar swells and gritty distortion. These two factors gave the band that mature but edgy sound that they were looking for. In early 2016 Hollandsworth left the band to pursue another career path. In order to keep up with their forward moving sound, they replaced Hollandsworth's guitar with Jackson Contugo on Alto and Tenor Saxophone and Wyatt Nelson on Trumpet. These two players gave the band a Jazz and Soul influence that was inevitable. In late January of 2017, Mason Turner & the Reign released their debut album, Summer Man. This is the bands first major release and has got them excited for the future!
2017 looks to be a good year for the band as they continue playing shows and promoting their "Summer Man" album. They also have plans to head back into the studio in March to start recording new material.
