Monique Gooden, a native of Columbia, Maryland, is an author, educator, artist, and a celebrity personality. She recently joined forces with noted expert psychotherapist, best-selling author Beverly Engel, to co-author a provocative self-help book which details preventive measures and healing mechanisms to overcome emotional abuse. This radical collaborative phenomenon has sparked a literary movement in an effort to bring activism to the forefront for emotionally abused victims. It was birthed out of a desire to empower women who have suffered emotional abuse and to eliminate the fear factor of removal or separation from a potentially dangerous or in some cases, even fatal circumstances for victims who may be too fearful due to economic dependency, emotional instability, complacency, and other discretionary motives.
At present, Ms. Gooden is in the throes of developing a national platform for Advocacy, Advice, and Self-Improvement in the struggle to end domestic violence against women. In March 2014, she was named Spokesperson for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). The collaborative self-help book will aid Ms. Gooden and NCADV’s efforts to combat domestic violence as she speaks out to shine light on a national epidemic that plague thousands of women every day. Her primary target will be to inspire other women who have traveled along that seemingly dismal, lackluster path of brokenness and misguided trust, and to join forces creating a network that advocates against domestic violence regardless of the social standing or class of an individual.
Ms. Gooden studied Art and Communications at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Minor in Visual Arts. When Ms. Gooden is not promoting her national platform, she teaches art to Primary School and Upper School aged students at a private school in Maryland.
Ms. Gooden is the ex-wife of former New York Mets Baseball Star Dwight Gooden, and they are the proud parents of two beautiful children, Dylan, 9, and Milan, 4.
