Shifty Eyes is an immaculate dynamic lyricist who is shaking up the hip-hop scene in Alberta, Canada. Shifty stays on top the track right through as he bellows, “I can see that you hate it every time that I’m leaving, but baby I’m sorry life ain’t easy.” With probably the best line being: “While I’m out on the road, remember you’re my drive.”

When Shifty’s rapping, his message becomes clearer and clearer as he gets deeper into his verses. All-round his music runs off emotion, and this is never more evident when he brings his female acquaintances into the fold, as he does on this track.

Shifty Eyes’ music has the shiny gloss of mainstream rap peppered with some of the roughness of trap rap. The rough elements keep things from getting too jiggy, and the gloss ensures that his music rises above the deluge of mediocre street rap.

Shifty Eyes’ not a freshmen in the professional recording and music industry. Through his dedication to music, the diligent artist has definitely left a stamp with cutting edge songs and lyrics. The Alberta, Canada based musician is an international recording artist. “As a child I was always intrigued by the elements of hip hop, although I’ve never seen them for what they were until I became an artist. Listening to sub genres and different music styles as a kid opened my mind to a broad spectrum of music, but it wasn’t until I was introduced to the art of freestyle in 2003 that I was really sold,” Shifty Eyes recalls when asked about he’s shift toward hip hop.

While touring with Def Jam affiliates in 2013 and recording along the way, the stop in Atlanta changed him forever as an artist. He saw the culture from a view he’d never seen from Canada. Now in the present Shifty Eyes’ is finishing up his self-titled album Shifty Eyes which pays homage to the old school roots of hip hop. He just tied up an EP of the collaborations that came from that album with some underground heavy hitters. He’ll be releasing Shifty Eyes with no features in 2017 to the underground market and he hopes to reflect himself and his story accurately with this project.

ALBERTA, CANADA – Shifty Eyes has always been energetic. It’s how he got his name, in fact. When he was a child growing up on the streets in Alberta, Canada, his friends called him by any manner of nicknames because he was small, wiry, extroverted and talkative. In particular, they’d playfully call him Shifty, and when one day a friend started calling him Shifty Eyes, the name stuck.

Today Shifty Eyes uses that energy and penchant for verbosity as an up-and-coming musician. Over the past three years he’s toured across the U.S. and recorded hundreds of songs in collaboration with other artists and producers. He has now returned home to Alberta to focus on promoting his most recent project – a mixtape of 20 songs that he says embodies the journey he’s taken throughout his career. The project, entitled “A New Day,” was released in April and has been making waves. Over the course of the next few months he’ll be releasing new music videos on YouTube for songs on the mixtape. In November there will be a new single and video release, as well.

“When I found music, it was a light in my life during a dark time,” Shifty Eyes said. “And for a long time my music was darker because I was using it as an outlet. It took me awhile to mold myself, and I’ve amassed a huge compilation of music that I’ve made with other producers over the years. Those songs show you a plethora of experience. I’ve grown, and now I have a plan and a structure to my music. This mixtape is kind of a stamp of authority of my music, and it takes you on a journey. It starts with some of my hard-hitting trap music and then leads into more of a laid-back vibe. There are songs that talk about family. There are songs that talk about moving forward past addictions. Ultimately, every song has an injection of positivity in it.”

Over the past three years, Shifty Eyes has been working relatively alone, surrounded by a small group of like-minded musicians, trying to build a name for himself. He has organized his own events, recorded and produced his own music, and even established a brand. After making some waves in the U.S., Shifty Eyes has set his focus on getting his music and message heard by the masses. “A New Day” highlights his lyrical creativity, reflecting his struggles and growth as an emerging artist in the digital world.

“When people hear my music, I want them to discover a sense of purpose,” he said. “That’s my goal. There’s a quote I heard from RZA awhile back where he said, ‘If one thing happens out of my music, I hope it’s that I can touch one person and help them out. That’s my idea of success.’ And I agree with that. I have a big dream. I want the access to be able to talk to people and mesh with communities. I think we’re in a time right now where it’s really hard to talk to your neighbors. There aren’t enough voices out there who have the balls to say something to affect change. I want to be a voice for positive change.”

I was particularly impressed with the overall message of the music focusing on positivity through life’s hardships - the motivation to maximize our potential regardless of the hands we were dealt. The production on his newest single “Keep Your Head” infused with immaculate lyrical performances created a great contrast in energy variations that completely colored the single in an inspirational shade. Production creates the foundation of the song and I really think that this artist understands the importance of this notion when songwriting to a meaningful beat. Not only are Shifty Eye’s lyrics on-point, the flows are tight and sharp with fluxes between hard hitting lyrics and gyrating cadences. The fluctuations from hardcore rap to mainstream vibes was apparent and made for an interesting dynamic throughout the single that I felt was appealing to true hip-hop fans.

Which is why 25 year old rapper Shifty Eyes caught our attention when we received his latest release in our inbox. Alberta rap seems to be a rare thing, at least for us, so it was refreshing to see the hustle coming out of the woodworks when it comes to someone like Shifty Eyes.

My latest single "Hustlenomics" is a raw vision into my past, with a little taste of the future.

The catchy production line on this one gets us going from the beginning till the end, leaving us wanting to go for seconds. Packed with high energy and explosive punchlines, "Hustlenomics" is featured as the third track on his debut mixtape A New Day which is now available.

Shifty Eyes Secures His Spot In The Industry With Debut Mixtape “A New Day”!

As a Hip hop journalist in the music industry, we’ve managed to run into tons of new upcomers. With the many emerging talented artists, some get heard and others don’t work hard enough to become a success story in the game. Hailing from Sylvan Lake, Alberta Canada, and with a musical talent like no other, Shifty Eyes is here to stay with his new debut mixtape “A New Day.”

When first taking a glance at Shift Eyes’ project, the first thing we noticed was his choice of cover artwork. We said to ourselves, here is this guy holding a banana with the name of his mixtape written all over it. At this point, the team at Inyaearhiphop was thinking we have to hear this project, will Shifty Eyes be a talented artist or would he be one of those artist you close your computer tab on?

We’ll, when clicking play and listening to the intro “Till Death”, we knew we already had the answer to our question and instantly felt “A New Day” would be a solid mixtape. Moving onto track 2, “Bass Remix”, Shifty showcases his metaphoric abilities over hard knocking bass that blows you away. Now, at this point you know your’re really in for something the world should be on the look out for.

Midway through the mixtape, we realized Shift Eyes does a good job of putting messages into his songs and doing it well over thumping trap beats. While continuing to move through the collection, we ran into a song which he titles “Ryda” and features Kevin Gates. On this one, the two go into depth about being from the streets and being straight up ryders. A cosign from BWA boss, Kevin Gates, pretty much put the project in 6th gear and let us know Shifty Eyes meant business.

From then on the while listening, the hits just kept rolling in with songs like “White Nino Brown”, “Blowin Up”, “Motive”, “No Pain”, and one of our favorites “People”. Every number on the project happened to be really good, but People had every one of us dancing and jamming from our office. The team at Inyaearhiphop gives the Canadian spitter’s tape 5 out of 5 mics. Shifty Eyes ability to make songs that make sense and choice of production lets you know he’s ready to take on the game.

We were going to break down every single track from the mixtape, but we didn’t want to spoil it for you guys. You’ll have to listen to the project from top to bottom to feel the hype and energy it gives off. We know Shift Eyes will be special to Hip hop and were glad to get introduced to A New Day!

On April 23rd 2016, Shifty Eyes will be teaming up with Coast2Coast Live to showcase some of his music off of his upsoming release "A New Day".
