Heavily influenced by traditional country music and the early outlaw movement of the 70's, This singer-songwriter’s unique sound, booming voice and powerful lyrics will surely remind you of what traditional outlaw country music is all about. Playing original tunes, as well as a very respectful and heartfelt tribute to his Honky Tonk Country Music Outlaw Heroes Waylon Henley is no doubt refreshingly reminiscent of the greats but make no question he has a unique sound and style that is his own woven together by all ofhis influences.
Born in the Mississippi Delta and raised in Southern Oklahoma, Waylon Henley’s relationship with music began at an early age. The connection to and love for country music is rooted deeply within Waylon’s DNA. Waylon’s father, Billy Jack Henley, played with and considered Waylon Jennings a close friend and chose to name his son after the legend. There’s little wonder that Henley began writing songs and performing at a young age…it was his destiny.
At the age of 14, his father drove him to the music store where the young boy purchased his first guitar using money he had earned performing odd jobs.
By the age of 16 he was an active member of a few local bands. He began performing in more venues including ones where alcohol was served. Acceptance to the Oklahoma Arts Institute’s acting program in the summer of 1987 further solidified Waylon’s conviction that performing was most assurdley without question his heart's calling and his soul's urging...
Upon high school graduation, the young musician filled with drive, determination and a desire to perform packed up his belongings and headed to Nashville. It was there, he was forced to face the reality that he lacked the life experience needed to succeed at that time. He made his way back to Oklahoma to his family and to his parents who by now were divorced and continued to sing and write. He allowed his voice to mature and grew as a performer.
The fall of 1990 saw tragedy strike Waylon and his family when his father, Billy Jack, suddenly passed away. Waylon struggled with the loss and considered giving up his dream of ever performing. His Mother Mary began teaching him to persevere..encouraging him to keep performing and to continue to use music as an outlet for his pain and to tell his story.
As a contestant on Season Four of Nashville Star, Waylon was introduced to a nationwide audience who fell in love with his unique style and sound landing him in the Top 32 contestants that season.
He’s taken the stage at The Nashville Palace, many Opry-Type shows, Honky-Tonks and dance halls across Kansas City, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas.
Currently performing in the Houston, Texas and surrounding areas. Waylon believes that country music reflects real life and the human condition. It is that story audiences are hungry for and Waylon Henley was destined to tell...
