"Given the rootsy grit for which Fort Worth’s Stella Rose became locally renowned, frontman/songwriter Stephen Beatty risked being accused of going soft if Un Chien, his new band, sounded more deliberative or polished...
...Un Chien doesn’t stomp and roar like the best of Stella Rose. Its majesty lies in the psychedelic spaciousness and languorous detail that Beatty and company superbly establish."

"Breaking from Fort Worth rockers Stella Rose last year, Stephen Beatty formed Un Chien, which counts Jerrett Lyday, Taylor Craig Mills, Rachel Gollay and Kris Knight among its ranks. Far afield from Stella Rose’s pulverizing rock tendencies, Un Chien’s self-titled debut record (on local label Hand Drawn Records) is a far more contemplative, but no less engaging affair. Full of hazy psychedelia and gorgeous guitar lines (majestic opener Gasoline Rainbow is stunning) spiraling through organ fills and expansive percussion, Un Chien embraces everything and filters its musical influences through its own, distinct sensibility."

"...A more tangible dive into this argument can be made by examining the work of Fort Worth-based quintet Un Chien, a decisively tight amalgamation of heady chord progressions and emotional wherewithal. Un Chien operates much less like Syd Barrett and more like a crude blend of Radiohead and Sunny Day Real Estate. At any given moment, lead singer Stephen Beatty runs the risk of drifting out of the realm of understanding, but his perpetual return to a more grounded zone suggests that his kite-like vocals are actually being flown by the rest of the band. It’s a concerted effort put forth by every member, and the payout is a sound that ebbs and flows equally across each note..."

ON TOUR MONTHLY EXCLUSIVE: IN THE STUDIO WITH UN CHIEN [œ̃ ʃjɛ̃] by Michal Elizabeth Smith (8.19.13)
Known for their individuality and atypical approach to music, psychedelic rock quintet, Un Chien broke ground on recording their debut full length album œ̃ ʃjɛ̃ at Taylor Tastch’s Audiostyles, and we got to come along for the ride. With a propensity for pure, untainted rock, the band tore through five of the ten planned tracks on the first night. Each song was unique and amazingly lucid for the genre; layered with both the delicate and the boisterous by veteran DFW musicians Taylor Craig Mills, Kris Knight, Rachel Gollay and Jerrett Lyday.
The band is in the studio right now working with Taylor Tastch on our first full length record! Working to make this one for a limited edition run on 12 inch vinyl; more to come in the next few weeks!

"The talent is here, and it will be well worth watching to see where this winds up."
Steve Watkins - DFW.com
“Eight minutes and sixteen seconds of dense back beats and hushed reverberating vocals tell the story of former Stella Rose front-man Stephen Beatty’s solo project Un Chien. What the debut eponymous EP lacks in length it makes up for in heft, as its two songs weight swirl from straight-forward to experimental, from dark to upbeat. Genre classification be damned as the pinpoint moves with each verse and bridge. Heartfelt yet distant, like a distracted lover picking up your laundry, Beatty mixes distorted synth with even more effected guitar to an alluring affect.”
