In 1997, in a small coastal town just outside of Cape Town, South Africa, a 15 year old metal head received a cassette from a his older sister's boyfriend with some epic beats on it. Oblivious of genre, the producer or DJ's names or any indication of what the album was called, he and his friends copied and shared it alike. Of one thing they were sure: hidden within the multi-faceted layers of melodies, synths, basslines and harmonies all at 144bpm, lay the blueprint to their destiny.
Tyrel 'Unsub' Slabbert fell in love with Psychedelic Trance on an anonymous casette and in 1999 he started mixing on Technics belt-driven turntables - a skill very few young DJ's still have the opportunity to master. Dubbed "Unsub" (Unkown Subject), he has not only crafted and developed his skills in the DJ box, but also contributed to managing SinThesis Media
Experience includes Temporal Distortion, a weekly event at Gandalf's in Woodstock, CASSIOPEIA and even Boomerang NYE 2010/11.
Whether playing solo or as half of his vs act with Robotrix called Subtrix, Unsub's sets are typically played at 144bpm. His influences are Scorb, Phatmatix, Squid Inc and Koxbox, to name just a few. His passion becomes apparent when one observes his style in the box. His 16 years of mixing evident as he posesses the ability to play several sub-genres of psychedelic trance with ease; whether it be progressive, twilight psy, high-tech or full-on.
