Imagine Prince reborn as a woman, long crimson and peroxide blonde hair thrashing outwards... Imagine Jimi Hendrix reborn, through the prism of a reborn Amy Winehouse, dressed in the sequins, feathers and cat-suit finery of 70s Diana Ross. She's here already: the musically explosive, vocally dynamic, sex-groove sleaze-blues rock 'n' roll force of nature known as JJ Rosa.
Like so many of her generation, JJ is not necessarily of-her-own-time, a digital generation music obsessive who builds her magpie's musical world from the infinite influences of literally the last 70 years. Born in Stockport, near Manchester in the late 80s, she was rather young for Madchester, and Britpop, eschewing the city's formidable musical heritage to plug straight into The Source, the original all-time classics, from Sister Rosetta and Billie Holiday to The Doors and Jimi Hendrix.
With a music room set up in the basement of her parents home she practised electric guitar/piano, sang, wrote, became a scholar of the best of history's infinite musical grotto: James Brown, BB King, Ella Fitzgerald, Chic, Donna Summer, Lauryn Hill, Nirvana, Outkast, Daft Punk (she could go on, forever)
With JJ's funkhop groove heavy rhythm section as her sturdy foundation, JJ's Hendrix and Prince influenced guitar licks and gritty and distinctive soulful vocals equate to one big juicy hard hitting catchy pot of insanely addictive music!
JJ Rosa has to be one of the most exciting artists to come out in recent years!
